Sidoarjo, October 27, 2024 – To commemorate International Coffee Day, which falls every October 1, favehotel Sidoarjo held a Barista Class in collaboration with Laleite, a local coffee producer from Malang. The event, which took place from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, was attended by 22 participants, including coffee enthusiasts and members of the public eager to delve deeper into the art of coffee-making guided by experts.

The Barista Class served as an educational platform and a knowledge-sharing session on various coffee brewing techniques, including pour-over, espresso, and latte art. Led by experienced baristas from Laleite, participants learned about the coffee-making process, from selecting high-quality beans to crafting a delightful beverage.

In addition to brewing techniques, participants also gained insights into making trendy iced coffee drinks popular among young people. Drinks like iced coffee with palm sugar and other modern iced coffee variants were demonstrated by the baristas, who shared tips and tricks to ensure consistent flavors and appeal to consumers.

Moreover, the session included a segment on calculating the Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) for each drink prepared. This way, participants were not only equipped with coffee-making skills but also essential business knowledge to manage costs and set competitive prices.

"As part of the food & beverage industry, we want to use the momentum of International Coffee Day to bring the public closer to the local coffee industry and foster appreciation for Indonesian coffee, while also providing practical skills for those interested in the coffee business," said Eka Dewi, General Manager of favehotel Sidoarjo.

Laleite, renowned for its coffee products sourced from the highlands of Malang, provided full support for the event by supplying premium coffee beans used during the training sessions. Through this activity, favehotel Sidoarjo hopes to contribute positively to the growth of the local coffee industry and raise awareness of the importance of appreciating Indonesian coffee.

The event received positive responses from participants, who enthusiastically engaged in each session, from theory to hands-on practice.

One participant, Ayu, a coffee enthusiast from Sidoarjo, shared her experience:
"I’m thrilled to have joined this Barista Class. Initially, I was just a coffee lover, but after attending this event, I gained a deeper understanding of how to brew delicious coffee. Learning directly from the experts was truly memorable, and I’ve developed a greater appreciation for the process behind every cup of coffee. The additional knowledge about calculating COGS was incredibly useful for someone like me who’s interested in starting a coffee business."
